The Sugar Waffle

Everyone has at least once in their life eaten a waffle. Waffles, waffles, or gaufres exist all over the world, in all shapes and flavors. Yet, the Belgian waffle (also known as the Liège waffle or sugar waffle) is one of the culinary symbols of our country, alongside chocolate, beer, and fries.

It’s unique, soft yet crispy, with sugar pearls that crunch under your teeth and a vanilla flavor that wins everyone over. Its golden, caramelized color invites nothing but indulgence.

Today, with a unique family recipe that has been carefully preserved through the years, the artisan bakers at Pegi continue to uphold this tradition and share this national treasure.

The Waffle as a Selling Point

The marketing of the sugar waffle has evolved significantly over the years. It has moved beyond bakeries and is now found in many different distribution channels:

Food Service:
A waffle on the dessert menu of a good restaurant? A waffle as a snack on a plane? Or even in a school? The Liège waffle is a versatile product that can be enjoyed in many different ways.

Retail:
A checkout counter? An automatic machine? Or a gourmet shop? Pegi waffles will delight the taste buds of many, and with packaging designed specifically for distribution, they stay fresh for weeks.

How to Enjoy a Real Sugar Waffle?

With or without a topping?
Traditionally, a Belgian waffle is enjoyed plain. This is, after all, the secret to its success. It is so flavorful in its natural state that there’s no need to add extra ingredients. Unlike other types of waffles, the Liège waffle only needs itself to be appreciated. Naturally, the most indulgent among you may be tempted to add Belgian chocolate, whipped cream, or fruits—and we won’t blame you! Our waffle will be even better with your favorite topping.

Hot or cold?
Make your choice! It will be great either way. Hot, fresh off the waffle iron from a street vendor or cold as an afternoon snack to recharge your energy. You can also reheat it yourself by following these instructions:

  • In the oven: Without packaging, 2 minutes at 200°C
  • In the microwave: With packaging open, 30 seconds at 750W
  • In a toaster: 30 seconds at maximum power

When?
The Liège waffle will satisfy you at any time of day. In the morning for breakfast, as a snack in the afternoon, or in the evening during your movie night. There’s no wrong time to enjoy a delicious waffle.
